WHO: Citizens of Little Rock and the surrounding areas who support equal rights for all
WHEN: Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008; 12:30p.m. to 2:30p.m.
WHERE: Arkansas State Capitol Grounds
For more information visit http://jointheimpact.wetpaint.com/page/Little+Rock or contact Jason Young atarlibertylover@gmail.com.
You are invited to join other Arkansans who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and straight at a rally at the State Capitol in Little Rock to show support for equal rights for all, including the right to marriage, and to show solidarity against the passage of Proposition 8, California’s anti-marriage equality amendment, as well as other discriminatory anti-gay ballot initiatives in our state, as well as Arizona and Florida.
Every day since Election Day, thousands have protested up and down streets in cities across California, including in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and Sacramento. A national, grassroots coalition of LGBT activists have followed in their footsteps.
On Friday Nov. 7 the “Join The Impact” campaign was only an ambitious idea on a blog and now, on Nov. 15, 1:30 p.m. EST/10:30 a.m. PST, in large cities and state capitals across the country, millions of supporters of Equal Rights for All will rally and march to raise public awareness of the need for LGBT equality in marriage and other civil rights.
I ask you to please join with your fellow citizens across the country and show solidarity in support of equal rights and that discrimination against any American is discrimination against all Americans.
If you attend please bring signs of your own, but make sure that the messages they contain are peaceful, loving, and positive and are not vulgar or hateful in any way. As much as we may want to show anger toward those who spread fear, uncertainty, and doubt about equal rights for all; we must realize that we can only win the recognition of equal rights by showing love and respect to all, just as we would want shown to us.
If you attach the signs to any kinds of supports make sure that they are not metal and are less than ¼” in diameter because otherwise they will be considered a weapon and they will either be taken from you by police or you could possibly face charges for bringing them onto the State Capitol Grounds.
We are still looking for more speakers for the rally and if any of you would like to speak that day we will have several speakers’ slots open, just be sure to keep it positive should you decide to speak.
After the rally is over, please stay and make sure that all trash and litter is picked up. We will be gathering to make a statement not a mess. After that there will be a meeting at the Unitarian Universalist church regarding efforts to try and repeal the anti-family Act 1 ballot initiative that recently passed in Arkansas. I encourage all those who wish to assist in that effort to attend.
Also please note, that the Center for Artistic Revolution will be holding a protest against Act 1 next Saturday on November 21. If you are unable to make it this Saturday, please try to make it to their rally, parade, and protest.
Pending for payment.
