I ALSO WATCHED THE IDES OF MARCH AND ...

Thoroughly enjoyed it and thought Ryan Gosling was the true star delivering his performance with the icy conviction necessary for this type of film. It's a political film and we all know that political races are a cut throat affair and that's putting it mildly.

SAVE ME a film by ROBERT CARY starring CHAD ALLEN

I watched SAVE ME last night while eating supper and enjoyed it.My family and friends never tried changing who I was while growing up so it is always interesting to watch films with those kind of story lines. While the subject matter has to do with the christian retreat curing young men of their gay affiction it is really the superb acting from all the actors that makes this film special.Chad Allen,Robert Gant and Stephen Lang are powerful in their male roles. The best performance is by the female lead.Judith Light as Gayle runs the retreat with one of the best performances of the year. You really should see this film.It is a very moving film that was a joy to watch.

DARKER SECRETS sideline secrets 2

This movie is full of men, beautiful men, half naked and naked beautiful men. They have sex often. The eye candy held my interest because after all they were gorgeous beautiful men half naked and naked having sex.I have no clue what this movie was about.I had a hard time following along with the story.I guess there was a story.I do know one of the characters is Peter and he is a cop.I never saw a uniform or a police station or anything that would make you think he was a cop, but they say he is ,so I must believe them.Peter is tasked with watching tons of sex tapes so that is what he is doing through the whole movie.

INTO THE WILD

I watched INTO THE WILD over the past 2 nights as I only had an hour to spare each night. It was a great movie and should be seen by people far and near. It's average critic rating is an 80 out of 100 and I see why it is so high.Christopher McCandless play by Emile Hirsch runs from his family right after finishing college and heads for Alaska. He has quite a few interesting adventures along the way.Hal Holbrook is one of those that he runs into in his travels. The performance by Hal Holbrook is amazing.I also ran from my family right out of High School.I joined the army where I spent 10 years of my life.I did keep in contact with my family but not as often as I wish I had especially now that my Mom has passed away.I could have had some good years in my 20's with her and the rest of my family had I not been so angry.I won't go in to specifics but I was angry about much the same things as Christopher was.He chose to go to Alaska and was not totally prepared for what he faced.I had the army and plenty of gay friends to help me through those years and while Christopher had many friends along the way, he really was going at it all ALONE and doing it his way.

LONG-TERM RELATIONSHIP

Matthew Montgomery and Windham Beacham star in this wonderful film about developing a relationship when you are total opposites. It is a funny film as I found myself laughing several times. It also has some drama as I found myself pulling for them to work through some issues and their differences. They LOVE each other, that is obvious and they have patience and humor, so maybe that Long-Term Relationship is possible.

an ANGEL named BILLY

The worst of this movie is the way over the top over acting at the most dramatic moments like when crying is needed. This is another low budget film with good looking actors that obviously have little acting experience. They actually do a pretty good job until they really have to show some emotion and then the over acting shows up.I did like the story and the positive spin on the gay community that it brings.Billy is living with his drunk father. His mom has moved on and left Billy and his brother with the homophobic man.Billy shares a kiss with one of his best buds and his father witnesses it and kicks Billy out.Billy moves to the big city and every where he turns help is there. His Mom shows up and they share a day.It is a good story worth seeing as Love is shown in many ways.

BEOWULF

I watched BEOWULF early this morning.I can say it is not a boring movie. You may recall another movie by this filmmaker The Polar Express well while I enjoyed that movie the style of computer filming made the kids look awful creepy.Robert Zemeckis uses the same style in this film but with greater success. The people look much more real.It is a entertaining film based on an old 3000 plus or minus line poem written around 700 AD.It is unknown who wrote the poem.It is the foundation for our modern hero myths such as Conan the Barbarian and King Arthur.I was somewhat impressed how the writers of the film version were able to fill the plot holes of the poem and bring it together.I am a fan of poetry and had always thought as did many scholars that this one didn't weave together a solid story. It is not what they left out of the story but what they added that amazed me.It made sense and worked for me.They filled the gaps of the story very nice.If there is one word to describe what this movie is about it is TEMPTATION.Then the CONSEQUENCES that follow.I also liked that the nudity was equal between male and female so no matter what your taste you can get an eyeful.

AMERICAN GANGSTER , MICHAEL CLAYTON & THE DARJEELING LIMITED

I watched these 3 films over the past 5 days and liked 2 of them alot and 1 of them only so-so.American Gangster is deserving of all the honors and nominations it received. It is a violent film that tells a story based on true events of the drug trade during the Vietnam era.It relates to us how a single man was able to use our military to transport "BLUE MAGIC" from Vietnam to Ft. Bragg and from there be distributed throughout the eastern part of the country.Crooked Cops on the take are also very much a part of the story. It was not my favorite film of the 3 but it is the most well done of the 3.The Darjeeling Limited is actually my favorite. It is a funny movie with OWEN WILSON , ADRIEN BRODY & JASON SCHWARTZMAN playing brother's on a trek through INDIA to visit their MOTHER who didn't show up to their DAD'S funeral a year earlier. They are really on a quest to find themselves. It is a film about their adventure and their friendship. It is an extraordinary film filled with many laughs and will most likely leave you wanting to renew old family bonds.I sometimes wonder if my brother's and I would be friends if we were not related.Check it out,It is worth seeing. That leaves us with Michael Clayton. It is a O.K. movie. It is put together well enough. My problem is that because of the nominations it received I was expecting more.I enjoyed it but didn't think it was great.George Clooney was George Clooney. He almost always is.I don't feel he acted in the film at all but only showed up and played George Clooney.Tom Wilkinson did turn in a brilliant performance.Tilda Swinton did win an OSCAR for her role which I felt was not the best of the 5 actresses. In fact of the 5 actresses up for best supporting actress award it was my opinion that Tilda's was the weakest.

AMNESIA : The James Brighton Enigma

I watched this movie Wednesday Night and enjoyed it.It is a story based on true events of a guy who wakes up naked on the streets of Montreal and doesn't remember who he is.The only thing he is 100% sure of is that he is gay.The movie is somewhat fragmented and confusing, but I would imagine if I were to have Amnesia and piecing my life back together as different memories kept coming back,it would be just that fragmented and confusing. In that, I feel the director achieved his goal.I highly suggest you watch this film.

COMEBACKS

Comebacks is not a very good movie. You could probably say it is the worst of the parody movies. You might even say it is the worst movie ever and that would be giving it more credit than it deserves. It was just what I needed though.Something I could sit back and watch and not have to put much thought into and maybe put a tiny bit of effort into a small chuckle a couple times during the hour and half.I can't really suggest this movie to you unless your looking to waste some time away.I've had a tough couple of weeks and feel plum tuckered out.I didn't mind having a blank mind while the movie played.

THE ASSASSINATION of JESSE JAMES by THE COWARD ROBERT FORD

I finally had a chance to see one of the Oscar nominated male acting performances.CASEY AFFLECK is nominated for his portrayal of ROBERT FORD the guy who killed JESSE JAMES.I have always enjoyed a good historical action adventure. This one is a bit long coming in at 2 hours and 40 minutes. My favorite line is said by JESSE JAMES played by BRAD PITT to ROBERT FORD and goes something like "You remind of the girl that wants a kiss but is afraid to ask".CASEY AFFLECK does get naked and takes a bath in a metal tub outdoors and splashes water at a cow that may be wanting to drink from the tub. That was rather cute but most of the movie is grim, portraying one of our most famous outlaw gangs as nothing more than a collection of country hicks, petty thieves and psychotic killers. The film has also been nominated for a OSCAR in the Cinematography catagory. It is a good film worth seeing. My only complaint was it was a little long.

THE WINDY CITY INCIDENT

ROBB C. SEWELL of EDGE BOSTON had this to say about the film I watched Tonight. It is called THE WINDY CITY ICIDENT.
"What I had hoped to be a comical and interesting movie turned out to be one of the worst films I have ever seen, an original concept ultimately destroyed by a poorly written script, sub-par acting, and amateurish, embarrassing direction and production.

At the heart of the film is Chanel Puget, a young gay man from Washington State. Plagued by strange dreams beckoning him to Chicago, Chanel abandons his handsome boyfriend and hightails it to Chicagoland where, in between moments of passion and lust, he begins to uncover the mysteries behind his dreams.

One of The Windy City Incident’s biggest flaws is its script. Simply, the dialogue is hackneyed, the plot convoluted and confusing, the conclusion unsatisfying and disappointing. The trouble was apparent from the get-go when script writers Maurice Maxwell, Jonathan Oswald, and Ruhn Andhide broke the cardinal rule of good storytelling but telling rather than showing, using a plethora of expository dialogue to fill the audience in on the facets of Chanel’s life and his disturbing dreams. The writers also resorted to the tiresome, lazy clichĂ© of a narrator (in this case, a bag lady) to oversee the madness. The narrator pops in and out of the movie, offering insights and commentary that are supposed to be funny and witty but instead come across as stilted and annoying. Frankly, in many ways, it seems that the writers couldn’t make up their minds about what kind of film they wanted to make. A comedy? Or maybe a fantasy? Hey, how about a porno? Yep. A porno. There are lengthy sex scenes that seem as though they were excised from a porn flick on XTube, but with unimaginative direction and half-hearted acting.

..., an original concept ultimately destroyed by a poorly written script, sub-par acting, and amateurish, embarrassing direction and production. And, speaking of porn, there is no better way to describe some of the acting in The Windy City Incident than to liken it to the performances usually seen in porn. This is never more the case than with actor Shane Grey who fails miserably as Chanel. Grey shares no chemistry with any of his leading men, often avoiding eye contact with James Townsend who portrays Chanel’s beau Randy. Grey’s performance lacks passion and energy, and comes across as incredibly wooden. Jeffrey T. Weaver, in the role of the Bag Lady, gives a nice performance, even getting a funny line here or there. But his character wanders aimlessly throughout the story, serving little or no purpose, and ultimately becomes tiresome.

As for the production itself, I knew there was trouble afoot when I began snickering during the opening credits with its incredibly cheesy animation. Camera work is boring and predictable, especially during the hot and heavy sex scenes. It would have been helpful if a little more time had been invested in editing the movie. But instead we have scenes where actors try to stifle their laughter and trip up their lines, and where microphones appear beside actors. Continuity is problematic, with Chanel’s hair color changing throughout the film almost as often as Web gossip queen Perez Hilton changes his hair color. But perhaps the worst part of the film is the overuse of bizarre sound effects. For instance, a child can often be heard chuckling amidst the action and, at other times, strange banging and clicking sounds can be heard. All of these sound effects add nothing to the movie and rather distract the viewer from the action.

When all was said and done, and after the final credits had rolled, I sat on my couch, scratching my head in bewilderment, trying to make sense of what surely has to be one of the worst films ever made. Frankly, I’ve seen better-acted, better-produced, and better-written videos on YouTube. Unlike poor Chanel, who submitted to the ghosts beckoning him to traipse off on his journey, do yourself a favor and resist the urge to watch The Windy City Incident. It’s not worth your time, effort, or money.

Postscript: While wrapping up this review, I decided to watch the film-makers’ commentary feature, which provides insight into the vision behind the movie and an explanation for the continuity problems (apparently video footage was lost and scenes had to be filmed again). Nonetheless, even with those explanations, I still stand behind my earlier comments about the film’s weaknesses."

RANDY & THE MOB Saturday October 6

Randy and the Mob is a feel good comedy about good ol'boy Randy Pearson, who can't seem to help getting in over his head. His business is in trouble and when long-standing debts become due to some mobster's it's time Randy swing into action. He needs help from his wife and gay twin brother. This movie is a powerful reminder of southern roots and how love and family can usually be counted on to trump all adversaries.Writer , Director , Actor RAY McKINNON will introduce the film and conduct a Q&A immediately following this special screening at MARKET STREET CINEMA.It will start at 7:00 p.m. on the night of October 6, 2007.This is a Gay-Friendly movie with a message of tolerance and I urge all of you to attend and support and meet the man behind the movie.Maybe ask some Questions and Listen & Learn. If you click on the post title you can go to the site where you can see a trailer for the film.
